Disney Top Tips

The question I probably get asked the most by friends and colleagues is to help them plan their Disney Vacation. The truth is, the perfect Disney holiday drastically varies from one person to the next. I really have to 'fact-find' before giving any advice...

"How much are you willing to spend?
Are you travelling with small children or teenagers?
How much walking are you prepared to do?
How long are you going to be staying for?

What types of food do you like to eat and what's your budget?

Do you enjoy thrill rides?"

There are so many things to consider! As ever, I am happy to answer any questions you may have on an individual basis in the comments below but for now, here are my Top Tips that will hopefully help everyone get the most out of their Disney vacation!

1. Comfort
I cannot stress enough how important comfort is when visiting Disney. People will often tell you to wear comfortable shoes and I would also always recommend that if you are bringing a bag, it's a backpack or if not, a cross body at the very least! Make sure that in it you pack all the essentials including: antihistamine, pain killers, plasters, sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, hand cream, tissues, anti bacterial hand gel, a pen for autographs and of course, an array of...

2. Snacks!
I very rarely purchase lunch in Disney Parks as A. It's expensive and B. I usually eat lots at the buffet breakfast* and then have a huge dinner in the evening so I don't really need a third meal. Good snacks to choose include crisps, raisins, bananas and cereal bars as you can eat them easily in ride queues or whilst waiting for the parades and shows. I would always buy snacks here in the UK supermarkets if travelling to Paris or for the two US Disney Resorts, try locating your closest Walgreen's or Walmart where you can find a whole host of unusual American treats to enjoy!

3. Water Bobble
Okay so this tip is probably only relevant if you're fortunate enough to be travelling to one of the sunny US or Asian parks. A Bobble is a clever little water bottle that magically filters your drinking water for you. As you can probably imagine, under the hot Floridan sun it is very easy to get dehydrated and Disney like to charge quite a bit for bottled water, so why not make the most out of the complimentary water fountains dotted around the park and create your own purified drinking water! At £8.99, I think it's a wise investment. You can purchase your Bobble here. Stay hydrated!

4. Fastpass
This one is probably quite obvious for most but I am always surprised by the amount of people that head over to Peter Pan's Flight at 3pm and wonder why there aren't any Fastpasses left for the day! For the most popular attractions, you need to be heading straight over to them as soon as the park opens as Fastpass will often run out within the first hour! Yes, for the whole day... I am not exaggerating! Also, don't be surprised if once you actually get your Fastpass and it's time to ride, your wait time still seems incredibly long. Fastpass is always the best option; do you really want to be wasting 120 minutes of your day queing for an attraction that barely lasts 2?

Walt Disney World, Orlando: At WDW they now have the Fastpass+ system which allows you to plan your day before you even get to the parks! Find out more.

5. Character Dining
Yes, it's expensive but so is everywhere at Disney! If your children (or yourself!) are all about meeting with the Disney characters, then Character dining is a must! There are an array of different experiences available ranging from dinner with Mickey and Pals at CafĂ© Mickey in Paris to a Royal breakfast with the Princesses at Cinderella's Royal Table in Orlando which is actually located inside the Cinderella Castle! Character Dining remains the simplest, most relaxed and time effective way to meet characters at the Disney Resorts and for that reason, it's a firm favourite tip of mine.

That's all for now; I will be continuing with my Disney Top Tips very soon!
